New Topic

The Champion ram
Last week I began writing on a new topic for Examiner.com: Outdoor Recreation. Tucson already has an Outdoor Recreation examiner, Linda Strader, who writes extensively on the Santa Rita Mountains, Madera Canyon and birds. She is a good writer and writes on interesting topics, please take a moment to read some of her articles.

I intend to cover every conceivable outdoor activity available in and around Tucson. While many articles will be highly localized, others may have a broader appeal.

The calf my husband wouldn't buy me
This weekend my Hubby,  I, and some good friends all trekked down to the little town of Sonoita for the Santa Cruz County Fair. Santa Cruz County has fewer than 50k residents, so you can imagine that this was a huge and boisterous event.

I did get to see an equestrian event that I have always wanted to see; Cowboy Mounted Shooting. This is a timed event requiring riders to shoot balloons with blanks fired from a .45 caliber pistol.  The horses must weave through gymkhana like patterns, while their riders are steering with one hand and firing with the other. There are 10 shots in the guns and ten balloons. Oh, and in case this all sounds far too easy, the horses are galloping. It was fun to watch.

As for articles:

This week I completed two assignments from Yahoo, one was about adopting a pet from the Humane Society, and the other was veterinary news about a new diet for cats that can theoretically transition hyperthyroid cats off of medications. Those articles, along with several equine-related articles can be found here.

My new topic, Tucson Outdoor Recreation can be found here.
My pet health articles are here.
My Travel articles are here.

For those of you following along on my epic bike ride of two weeks ago, I am  s l o w l y  recording that ride at my other blog.
